Expressions that help you understand everyday conversations, local humor and rhythm.
An expression of surprise, amazement or emphasis. It can mean “wow,” “really?” or “what do you mean?”
Example: “Oxente, are you leaving already?”
An expression similar to “look at that” or “check this out.” It is used to draw attention to something happening nearby.
Example: “Ó paí, ó! The band is starting.”
A humorous response used to reject an ambiguous or suggestive phrase and distance oneself from the double meaning.
Example: Someone says something with a double meaning and the response is: “Lá ele!”
